A Cleveland Orchestra commission, Johannes Maria Staudโs percussion concerto was crafted with virtuoso percussionist Christoph Sietzenโs electric artistry in mind. Music Director Franz Welser-Mรถst offers a window into this symbiotic collaboration between composer and performer. Over the Orchestraโs instrumental backdrop, the soloist blends traditional percussion instruments with flowerpots, oil cans, blocks of scrap wood, and suspended metal sheets. Sietzen reflects on his process for embodying this unique sound world, sharing his infectious musical joy.
